Faith Words: Take Notice
They say that we're in the middle of a government shutdown - at least a partial shutdown. Certain positions and services will be unavailable until everything is sorted out and funding is renewed. Some people will feel little effect of the shutdown; some will feel it very personally because their jobs are the ones deemed non-essential. There's plenty of blame to go around, but more importantly, there is plenty of responsibility to go around. The purpose of our country's governing bodies is to make sure that this day doesn't come at all.
In the middle of all this chaos, I am just so thankful that our God doesn't operate like our government does. No matter what else is going on, no matter what seems to be falling apart around us, our God never shuts down His government. He never quits providing essential services. He even consistently provides services some might think are non-essential. The beauty of a blooming flower, the joy in a child's laughter, the refreshing crispness of a fall morning.
We take so much for granted. We expect that all things things will always be there and we become so accustomed to them that we stop noticing the blessings around us. We forget to be grateful and thankful for all that God does for us. We forget Him.
When's the last time we stopped all our "busy-ness" for just a little while and took note of the wonders that God provides every day, all day? What if these things were gone? Would we care? Would we notice?
Thankfully, God's blessings don't depend on our notice or our gratefulness. They only depend on Him. He set the laws of nature into motion and they still work. He governs the Universe with perfect justice and mercy. He never shuts down. His love never fails.
What a God we serve!

Hebrews 12:28 (NIV)
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe.

Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.
"I desire to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart."
Hear my prayer, O Lord; let my cry for help come to You.
Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.
