Faith Words: All Packed
By the time you read this, we'll be gone. We're going on a long-planned trip to new places with new adventures. I wonder what we'll see, what we'll discover....
You'd think we were moving instead of just travelling. I tried on almost every article of clothing I own, rejecting most and finally settling on the ones that seemed best suited for what we plan to do where we plan to go. Three suitcases and two carry-ons later, we're packed.
You, know, Abraham set out on a trip. His Travel Agent told him to pack up his tent, his wife, his family, his belongings and go. He didn't even know where he was going. He was told to go and he went. He listened to God's voice and obeyed God's command and he pulled up stakes and went.
His immediate destination was not always clear, but his heart told him "You're not there yet. Keep moving." His Travelling Companion stopped by or checked in now and then. And he collected the most amazing set of souvenirs along the way. There were detour and delays but still he forged ahead. It was important to him to keep moving, to make progress.
We, too, are always on the move. We may find ourselves in the same spot for a while, but this world is not our home. As the song says, "we're just a-passing through."
Detours and delays sometimes obstruct our progress and we are often tempted to give up and just stop and stay in the dead-end place we've strayed to. Sometimes the trip seems so long that we might begin to think we've been deceived, that the Promise Land is nothing more than a legend, a myth that isn't real.
But like Abraham, if we listen, we'll hear that special voice, that call to get back on track and move on. There's an oasis ahead that we can hardly dream exists. All the trouble and trials we experience will vanish like vapors when we finally reach the Promise Land.
Keep moving. One step after another. Just keep moving faithfully toward that distance horizon. Can you see it?
Looking ahead with hope,
Patrice
Hebrews 11:10 (KJV)
For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
Comments
But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.
The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him;
A man who has riches without understanding is like the beasts that perish.
Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord
has been good to you.
