Faith Words: Critical, Need-To-Know Information

We were laughing Wednesday night about my favorite line from the movie "Tremors 2."  Poor Bert!  He thought he was fighting one kind of threat, but the threat had changed and no one told him.  He said, "I feel I was denied critical, need-to-know information!"

Sometimes when we're studying the Bible, it can feel like we don't have all the information and we're stumped.  We don't understand a passage.  We don't know the different layers and background information of a story.  We're unfamiliar with a concept or the meaning of a word.  It can make studying and understanding the Bible more difficult.

Thankfully, the Lord planned for our missing knowledge, our ignorance.  He encouraged us to meet together with other believers regularly and encourage each other.  Through the Holy Spirit, He gifted some believers to be teachers and preachers.  He gifted mankind with the talent to develop the printing press and the Internet, so we could have a copy of the Scriptures of our own and have the opportunity to read and study God's Word over and over and refer to wonderful study guides and ancient texts.

We may not know everything we'd like to about God's Word.  We may not have a complete understanding of the Bible.  The Good Book itself doesn't include every detail of every story.  But what we have is enough.  Enough to know who God is.  Enough to come to belief in Jesus as the Christ.  Enough to understand how we should live.  Enough to remain faithful till faith becomes sight.

Enough.

John 20:30-31 NIV

Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not recorded in this book.  But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His Name.

But you, God, see the trouble of the afflicted; you consider their grief and take it in hand. The victims commit themselves to you; you are the helper of the fatherless.
