Faith Words: To Be Here Dedicated
“To be here dedicated...”. After more than two years of civil war, Abraham Lincoln spoke these words to a wounded and war-weary nation. The war would continue for almost two more years. His words encouraged those listening to hold onto what motivated them in the first place, not to give up, to finish what had been started. This was not the time to quit. Victory was in their grasp.
I heard it said recently that motivation is what gets you going, but it’s dedication that keeps you going long after the power of the motivation has wained.
What am I dedicated to? I’ve certainly been motivated to begin many projects in my lifetime, but what am I dedicated to? What means enough to me that I will give my life to it, that I will see it through to completion? Is there some motivation that lit a flame in me, that still burns somewhere in my heart, that will keep me on track long after the initial fine has died down?
So I will be here dedicated to...
You and I could both probably fill in the blank with many things but to simplify, let’s start our list with a renewed dedication to following Jesus. There may be times when our motivation dims, when it seems to difficult to continue, when we are weighed down with burdens that want to crush us.
In those moments of wavering and weariness, let’s hold onto what motivated us in the beginning - our need for a Savior and His enduring, boundless love.
Don’t quit now. Victory is in our grasp.

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!
Commit your activities to the Lord, and your plans will be established.
Come away with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.
I love you, LORD, my strength.
He reached down from on high and took hold of me;
He drew me out of deep waters.
